Policy Hardener

A policy reads well to the person who wrote it. It reads very differently to someone looking for the sentence they can use against you. The cheapest time to find that sentence is before you publish; the most expensive is when a complainant, a regulator or a journalist finds it for you.

What it does. In the app this tool is labelled Policy Roast, and the name is the method. Most organisations have a statement of intent with no operational teeth — warm language that would not survive thirty minutes with a discrimination lawyer — and this is what shows you the difference. You paste a policy, or load one straight from DocuVault, set your sector, and press Analyse. There is an adversarial critique mode that runs slower and deeper when you want the harder read.

What you get. A grade and a list of named problems, tied to the wording that causes them. It is meant to be run more than once — harden the flagged phrases, run it again, and watch the score climb because the policy genuinely improved, not because the tool softened. Nothing is stored unless you save it.

Who uses it. Policy owners before publication. EDI and governance leads inheriting documents they did not write. Anyone about to rely on a policy in a live dispute.

Where it fits. It reads from DocuVault and its findings feed Policy Portfolio, where they sit against the rest of your estate. Defensibility asks the neighbouring question — not how well the document is written, but whether the position it sets out would hold up. A harsh grade here is useful; treat it that way.
