Who owns the documents we create, and how can we use Toolkit content?
Buying, licensing and policies
In brief:
- Your content: everything put into the Toolkit, and everything it generates from those inputs, remains the customer's. No ownership of inputs or outputs is claimed. Content is only stored and processed to provide the service, and is not sold, shared with other customers or used to train AI models.
- Your outputs: documents generated, such as assessments, EqIA and DPIA outputs, evidence packs and board briefings, are for use within the organisation. An EqIA, for example, can be used internally and shared with a regulator or advisers. Outputs often draw on the underlying framework material, so that framework should not be extracted and published separately.
- Toolkit content: the framework documents, personas, scenarios, prompts and software remain our intellectual property. A licence allows use for the organisation's internal purposes, including circulation to colleagues, board and committee papers, and internal training. It does not allow republishing, reselling or redistributing them outside the organisation.
- Openly licensed material: parts of the public website, such as blog posts and published Beyond Compliance findings, are licensed under CC BY-SA 4.0. The Toolkit platform content is not openly licensed.
